Satisfying Our Hunger

I stayed up extra late last night.

I know, your mind immediately jumps to the conclusion that I was at some wild party, right? Sorry to disappoint you, but I was actually finishing The Marriage Plot. Oh, you mean you automatically assumed I was reading a book and/or having a cozy night in?

You know me so well. 😉

I will have a review up as soon as my book club and I discuss it. Overall, it was an interesting read. But the late bedtime did make me a bit of a crank upon waking up for my long run. Fortunately, I had an encouraging husband and a promise of food waiting for me on “the other side.”

I finished the eight miles in 1:14:41, only to find out I had actually ran an extra quarter mile. Not a huge deal, but my goal is to stick to the training plan as much as I can to avoid injury so I need to do a better job mapping out the course next time.

When I got back, Bobby had a delicious egg scramble waiting for me. It was made with red pepper, chicken sausage and spinach, then stuffed into a whole wheat tortilla. It really hit the spot and was the perfect post-run meal. It also happened to be the subject of #MarchPhotoADay: breakfast.

After cleaning my plate in approximately 9 seconds, we were off to satisfy another kind of hunger.

My sisters-in-law may think I’m crazy (I’m actually planning to see this with them and my mother-in-law over Easter weekend!) but I knew I’d be seeing this film more than once. Again, call me crazy, but when it comes to book series – Harry Potter, Twilight and now The Hunger Games – I average at least 2-3 showings in the theater. Yes, that is a lot of dollars spent in ticket purchases, but it’s one of the “experiences” in life that I think are worth splurging for.

I find that the first time around, I am way too excited about actually seeing the movie to concentrate. The whole time I’m wondering what scene will be next, how they are going to play “XYZ” out on screen, etc. This inability to fully grasp and appreciate what I’m watching makes it so that I actually wind up liking the movie even more the second – alright, or maybe even third – times around.

All I have to say is…I can’t WAIT to see this again for our girl’s outing!!!! Totally lived up to the hype.

Did you see The Hunger Games this weekend? If so, what did you think (no spoilers)?

Here are the rest of this week’s #MarchPhotoADay!

March 19: I kept coming back to this when brainstorming “funny.” If you haven’t seen Kristen Bell’s Sloth Meltdown, you must watch it on YouTube immediately!

March 20: Before and after. I hardly ever paint my fingernails, but went bright for the first day of spring! The color is 24/7 by Sinful Colors.

March 21: Strawberry-raspberry lemonade tea is “delicious,” especially when served in a mug that keeps it real. “Multi-tasking: screwing up several things at once.” That just about covers it.

March 22: The kitchen sink put to work – an alternative perspective.

March 23: There was no “moon” to be seen in Chicago on a cloudy night, so I consulted a book instead. On the Day You Were Born by Debra Frasier is a great read for kids!

March 24: This (stuffed) “animal” is nearly 25 years old and has only one eye missing. 😉 His name? Bear. I was a creative child, what can I say?

Hard to believe there is just one week left in yet another monthly photo challenge. Are we really almost done with the first quarter of the year? Am I really only a month away from a quarter of a century? Do I need to embrace the impending crisis? Slow down, time!

Apparently I need to take a deep breath. And find something else to eat. I’m hungry again.

How did you spend your first weekend of spring?

Abrazos,

  1. So, I saw it last night! I think it was well done. They stayed pretty close to the book which I appreciated. I guess, I missed hearing Katniss’ thoughts. It was almost like the movie was too quiet since we couldn’t hear what was going on through her mind. Other than that, I enjoyed it! I will definitely be excited to see the next 2!

    • I felt the same way! There were little moments here and there where I just wanted the internal monologue. Other than that, couldn’t get enough. Can’t believe we have to wait until November 2013 for the next one!

  2. Great job on the (extra long ;)) run! And again-yum to breakfast bobby made. Glad the movie was good!! We got in lots of walks and runs outside this week

  3. The Marriage Plot is actually on my list of books to read, but I haven’t had the luck of finding it in stock in our local bookstores, maybe next time. I wish I actually read the book before watching Hunger Games a few days ago. Even though I feel like the movie did a pretty good job of translating the text into the screen, I have a feeling that it left out a lot of nuances. I will definitely buy the series once I finish the books that are lined up for me to read.

    • I totally understand and agree – there are definitely plenty of amazing details you will get if you do decide to get the series, I promise! 🙂

  4. Oh my golly The Hunger Games was amazing!! I probably shouldn’t have re-read the book two days before seeing the flick but I thought it actually did a great job of representing the book (not going to lie, kind of have a girl crush on Jennifer Lawrence lol). I can’t wait for the second installment! LOVED your photos too gal! xoxo

    • Haha! I was soooo tempted to re-read the book. Now that I’ve seen the movie I definitely want to go back and re-read the series again! Jennifer Lawrence was a PERFECT Katniss. Can you believe we have to wait until November 2013 for the next one? Oy! Thanks for the photo love. 🙂

  5. What a great run Jenn! I’m certainly jealous!

I just bought the first book of the Hunger Games and want to read it before I see it in the theater. If I get the time, I should be able to read it super fast, then movie time!

And that bear is too cute. I have an old oliver and company cat that is missing his tuft of hair at the top of his head because one of my old dogs ripped it out when I was a kid. And I think a leg is missing too. 😀

    • I can’t wait for the day we get to run together again, lady! (P.S. We still need to catch up ASAP.)

I’m SO excited you bought the book! Text me as soon as you’re finished to let me know what you think – I already can’t stand the suspense. 🙂

      Your kitty sounds adorable!

    • I could not stop laughing the first time I watched it, and crack up every time since! 🙂

  6. Looking forward to book club! Oh, and you’ll be pleased to know that our local theater has several choices for HG movie times…like, um…every hour…haha. (Shocker, I know. :))
