‘Wild’ and stormy night.

So remember that storm I thought was coming? It definitely did – and my dad and I didn’t want to drive all the way to my grandparent’s house in the pouring rain (they live about an hour and a half away from me). So instead we decided to grab dinner at a place called Wildfire. It’s a very nice restaurant and a definite treat for special occasions (such as when parents come to visit!) 🙂

They have some of the best bread at Wildfire – a white bread and a rye bread that I can’t get enough of. Unfortunately tonight they only had the white, but it’s still very good and I snagged a small piece (or two, or three!):

The pictures are a little overexposed-looking because I took them without the flash and brightened them later – I still think they look better this way than with the flash.

We started out by splitting a spinach salad with egg, mushroom, red onion and a mustard dressing. It’s the best salad I’ve ever had – we get it every time we go!

For dinner I had macadamia nut-crusted halibut with asparagus and a side of wild rice. I got the lemon butter sauce on the side – thankfully because it looked really thick and heavy and I don’t like sauces that take too much away from the flavor of the food itself. I enjoyed every bite of the big plate and ate a little of the rice – had to save some room in there for dessert 😉

For dessert, my dad and I split a piece of key lime pie. It had a graham cracker crust and was so appealing to the eye that it ended up in my stomach before I remembered to take a picture – oops! My apologies!

So another big night out of eating – it’s been a crazy two weeks with all the family visits! I definitely can’t complain about getting to see them though.

Early Birthday Part Two!

So my dad was on a business trip in London and came to Chicago on his way back home to see me  He brought me back some super cool gifts – a pink sweatshirt and a funky tote bag that will be great to use in the summer!

I’m full. I’m happy. I’m going to bed early on a Friday.

Sweet dreams 🙂

  1. Oh no!! So sorry that the storm actually hit – I think it’ll hit here today, by the looks of the gloomy skies :0(
