It’s the weeeeeeeeekend! I am currently situated on the couch while blogging and watching Twilight. It’s time to get in the spirit for the upcoming release of New Moon — perhaps I should start reading again? π It wouldn’t be the first time. Or the second.
The amazing Jessica — who I am chatting with on Gmail as I write this post! — recently commented that she would love to see a “daily eats” post. Who am I to say no to that? After all, that’s where my blogging roots lie and I admittedly have been slacking in the kitchen lately. I needed some inspiration!
Friday’s breakfast was “inspired” by Brandi’s recent post on banana split oatmeal.
Served with Coffee Cocoa in an autism awareness mug. I also decided to put the banana split in a corn-on-the-cob holder for a fun fit. The actual ingredients were:
- 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- 1 large banana
- 1 tbsp. ground flax
- 6 pieces (or so) bittersweet chocolate chunks
- Sprinkle of cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice and maple sugar
Such a fun way to brighten the morning. I love playing with food! Thanks for the great idea, Brandi.
Lunch had to be super quick. We are in the midst of planning a few big events and work has been busy, to say the least! Best option in times like these = soup. Particularly split pea soup from Dr. McDougall’s. It literally takes 10 seconds for me to make this soup. We have a hot water machine so I literally just have to add the water, stir and let sit. Delicious soup in no time!
I also had a honeycrisp apple and half of a cinnamon-raisin bagel. Random combo, but it worked!
The rest of the day went buy in a rush. So, so busy! Fortunately, my very thoughtful fiancΓ© made it very easy for me to make a delicious dinner when I got home. We were originally going to have omelettes, but since I arrived home later than expected, he saved me a chopped up tomato and a 1/2 sandwich from my favorite sandwich shop: Hannah’s Bretzel. I haven’t eaten there since August 2008. Crazy!
I cooked up the tomato with some spinach and mushrooms in a pan with some olive oil for a delicious side. The sandwich from Hannah’s was The Club, which according to their website includes, “oven dried prosciutto, free range all natural smoked turkey, Swiss GruyΓ¨re cheese, fresh avocado, organic vine tomatoes, organic onions, romaine lettuce and organic alfalfa sprouts on organic Bretzel baguette.” It was a flavor sensation — the saltiness of the meats combined with the smooth avocado and freshness of the tomatoes, onion, lettuce and sprouts complemented each other perfectly. Plus, you can never go wrong with bretzel.
After dinner, I cranked open some Halloween spirit. Yes, I’m a week late — but the fact that this ice cream has yet to make an appearance on the blog this year is shameful, indeed π
Remember my good friend Frank? I felt a little guilty because Frank didn’t get to make an appearance amidst the busyness of last weekend, so he became the ice cream bowl last night. Yes, I personify by bowls, plates and mugs. Don’t hate it, embrace it!
Update: Currently watching the ending scene in Twilight. Swoon! The moment on the gazebo is total chemistry — do you think Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are dating in real life? Total tabloid gossip here (insert eye rolls)…but what are your thoughts? I know some people aren’t fans, but I really like both of them and I think they complement each other on screen.
Hope that your Saturdays are off to a good start! I’m following everyone on Twitter via #fbzfest but equally excited about Caitlin’s hash tag, #notinSF π Wish I could be seeing some of you!
Abrazos,
FRAAAANK!!! Love it, haha π
I’m praying that they’re NOT dating – Robert is too good for her **evil laugh**
Why Frank, you don’t look a day older π
I’m going to put Hannah’s Bretzel on my list of places to hit next semester! That sandwich looks awesome. So does the salad alongside it!
And your breakfast is too cute. What a fun idea for a Friday breakfast!
I hope next week is a little calmer for you π Have a fantastic and relaxing weekend!
PS: Are you considering Fit Bloggin? It looks so fun but I haven’t made a decision yet.
Oh, and tabloid gossip is not worthy of an eye roll. I admit it–I subscribe to People! I would speculate about the Twilight real-life dating situation if I had any insight at all, but I’m pretty Twi-dim π
wow. that looks awesome!
p.s. I am the BIGGEST Northwestern fan right now…the fact they beat Iowa just made my week, and quite possibly my life. Way to go!!
I’m just praying the rumors aren’t true and Robby isn’t cheating on me with Kristen π oh what I wouldn’t give to be that girl!
Just about two weeks ’til the big night! I am literally dying — I shamelessly read the first book for the third time last week to get me in the spirit.
That banana split oatmeal looks sooo good π Brandi had an awesome idea. Must try it!
I love the banana split…and Frank!
Kristen and Rob are hittin’ it.
That breakfast looks fantastic and the fact that it’s in a corn on the cob holder makes me love it even more! Genius, Miss Eating Bender. Pure genius! I am all over those sauteed veggies too. How delicious!
Glad Frank got some screen time π
I am digging that banana split action. Wow how clever!!!!! I think I am gonna have to recreate that at some point. The prob is that the nanna doesnt hold enough oats all contained inside it to look purdy. Mine would be a banana split explosion oats π
loved this post!!!
LOVE your tomato/mushroom/spinach combo… looks super yum! π
I love the banana split!! Yum!
So fun- I always enjoy seeing your daily eats. I’ve been wanting to try that banana split oatmeal- so fun. And the bretzel place? The roll looks so yummy. YES I do think they’re dating- they said they actually live together! Can’t wait for the movie
that banana splits oats looks great!!! if only i had breakfast times to actually do that…soon enough; i’ll be home!

That banana split oatmeal looks amazing….buying bananas ASAP and trying it out π

Aww poor Frank. Him and I just broke up as well π LOL That banana split oats looks so fun and YAY for thought fiances! I think all of us at home want to be with the bloggers in San Fran.

I gots to try that pumpkin yumpkin ouce cream!
Aw, I always love your daily eats posts!
Those banana split oats look great. I make a “Banana Energy Sundae” using yogurt, cold cereal, and nuts, but that will DEF go into rotation for the cooler months. I’m excited to try it:)
That pretzel bread looks fantastic! I saw some pretzel rolls at TJ’s the other day, and I was so close to buying them…now I wish I had!
I also saw Brandi’s banana split and now I know I HAVE to make it for the girls. It is just too fun!
Would you believe I haven’t seen Twilight yet? I’m dying to!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
I keep seeing banana split oatmeal everywhere but am always too lazy to make it! But after seeing your pictures with the ***melty chocolate*** on top, I’m definitely tempted!
Also jealous of your pumpkin ice cream!
I looove the banana split idea but have yet to do it myself!
Yayy thanks for the shout-out!!…. and PR advice yesterday! π
I have no idea if the twilight couple are dating in real life (since every other story either supports or denies it), but I hope so…they’re so cute together! She’s good for him!? Haha…..
And the banana split oatmeal sounds amazing!! Would love to try that sometime soon…doubt it would stay that pretty post-pic though! I’d probably mash everything up right afterwards! hahaha
I actually tried the mcdougal split pea earlier this week and really liked it! it had a lot more flavor and texture than some of the other instant ones I’ve tried!! Sooo good!
Have a great day Jenn!! xoxo
i dunno anything about “twilight” but i did sit next to robert pattinson a few years ago at brunch, before the whole twilight thing started. it was the day after i saw harry potter and i recognized him; we chatted for a while and he seemed really psyched to just be recognized. dunno how this is relevant to whether he is dating kristen stewart except that he might like the attention, just a little bit….
oh my! that banana oatmeal mix looks out of control good. Thanks so much for posting that!
Those banana split oats look fab!
And Jenn, great minds must TOTALLY think alike–I put in Twilight yesterday while doing homework for the purpose of getting “new moon ready”! Um I think there’s a huge possibility they are dating in real life, as much as it pains me to admit it.
YUMMM that sandwich is amazing- i loove prosciutto, it is EVERWHERE in spain and soooooo good- haha just sayin ;D
Loooove the banana split breakfast … so much fun! I may have to try this when dessert cravings strike too!
I knew I wasn’t the only one who was drooling over Brandi’s creation!!
Yay for New Moon!!! Can’t wait:)
That banana split oatmeal looks amazing!
yum – your banana split looks awesome Jenn!!! and I love seeing Frank again π
Hope you had a great weekend!
Oh my gosh, how cute is Frank? I think you should use him year-round. π
So sad as I cannot log into my Twitter account. Changed my username, and been Tweetless now for 2 weeks. π
Your banana split oatmeal is quite a brilliant breakfast bender, and the corn-on-the-cob bowl made the perfect dish.
Miss you too my sweet friend. Looking forward to December!
How cute! i love frank! yum to the oatmeal!!
That sandwich looks SO good. I need one of those!
Thanks for your comment on my blog! I haven’t named any of my mugs yet, but my blender is named blue betty!! That oatmeal looks delish…I forsee it on my breakfast menu sometime soon!
Pumpkin Ice-cream! I’ve never seen this before and I so need to try it!
The oatmeal banana split looks like fun. I think if I liked pure banana flavour more, I would try that out, because who doesn’t like playing with their food? π I’m also loving that bretzel bun. I bought one a long time ago, and it was uber tasty.
I don’t like bananas or oatmeal (don’t throw things please) but your breakfast looks pretty darn good!!
Wow. LOVE the banana split oats. So fun and clever!! I’m going to make ’em soon for sure!!! π
*smiles*
Michele
i just found that pumpkin ice cream yesterday !! π yay we’ve finally found it! haha
Pumpkin Ice Cream is one of my most favorite flavors. Used to eat it as a kid at Baskin-Robbins and still do today.
