Last night, I decided to make Gliding Calm Tofu for the second time ever. I am really a tofu novice, so it’s wonderful to have such an easy-to-follow recipe 🙂 The only changes I made were to use teriyaki instead of soy sauce.
It was my first time using brown sugar as a sweetening agent, and I have to say that it made the tofu taste SO much better! The combination of salty and sweet was fantastic. Thanks so much, Gliding Calm! You have truly made the blogging world a tastier place with your recipe.
I put half of the block of tofu (2.5 servings) on top of a bed of spinach and topped it all with 2 tbsp. Newman’s Own Sesame Dressing.
I liked that my tofu was slightly blackened. It made it crispier and firmer.
On the side, I had a super juicy clementine.
After dinner, it was off to class, where I gave my Whole Foods presentation! It went really well and I was pleased with how the PowerPoint turned out. I tried to take a couple of screen shots on my Mac to show the design to you, but they aren’t uploading for some reason. Anybody have any tips?
Onto this morning, I woke up early to get ready for work and made myself a rather familiar looking breakfast.
I’m really starting to dig this toast kick I’m on! Apparently it’s my new oatmeal, at least for this week 😉 I used the same Promise + Smuckers Strawberry Jam combination I had yesterday.
With the toast I had a microwaved egg white topped with roughly 1/4 cup of reduced-fat Mexican cheese blend. Eggs + toast are a great pair.
I brought a Coffee Cocoa along with me for the ride to work. It was snowing this morning, so the commute was somewhat miserable. At least there’s a good morning show on the radio!
I spent the morning working on a major cookbook project we’ve got going on this week. I edited, worked in the database and edited some more. Halfway through the morning, I whipped out a little sum’in sum’in new!
I heard both good and bad reviews about the Toasted Coconut Banana Macadamia Nut flavor of the Quaker True Delights bar, so I decided to try it for myself. Upon opening the package, I was happy to find a bar filled with big chunks of coconut and nuts!
And…I really liked it! I agree with those of you who said there is nothing “fake” tasting about this bar. It reminded me of a crunchier version of baked oatmeal. The nutty chunks made it fun to eat and the banana flavor was definitely present. The only thing that bothers me is that “corn syrup” is listed as the second ingredient, but I would definitely buy these again and can’t wait to try the other flavors!
When I got home from work, I heated up my leftover Gliding Calm Tofu.
It tasted even better the second time around! The flavor was more pronounced.
I also made myself a second plate of delicious proteins + fats 🙂
I had 2 oz. deli chicken topped with 2 tbsp. roasted red pepper hummus.
And then I had 1 oz. of smoked gouda cheese. My newest favorite!
Now I’m catching up on the episodes of 24 that I’ve missed while sipping on a steaming hot cup of Coffee Cocoa. It was overflowing at first…oops!
Plans for the rest of the day:
- P90X Arms + Shoulders and Ab Ribber X DVDs
- Dinner with Bobby
- Couples ballroom dance class!!
- Homework (optional)
Actually, homework isn’t really optional, but I sure wish that it was 🙂 I’m really looking forward to the dance class and will be sure to let all of you know how it goes! I consider myself to have two left feet, so it should be interesting and comical, at least!
Random Question
Have you ever played an instrument?
I took piano lessons from 1st through 5th grade and played the alto saxophone from 5th through 7th grade. I really wish I would have continued both of them! I can still play the piano but only the basics. I’d love to get back into it…someday.
P.S. Check out Every Gym’s Nightmare for a chance to win a cool book!
GC TOFU!!! Gotta love Miss GC 🙂
Wish I could help you with the powerpoint, but I’m pretty technologically challenged with that stuff 🙁 Sorry!!
**I’ve played the piano, clarinet, violin, guitar, flute, and trumpet.
I was quite hyperactive when I was younger so I took piano lessons for three years. It was a disastrous attempt at playing an instrument; its been about 7 years since I stopped and I know nothing!!!
aw yay yay yay yayyyyyyyyyyyyy! So glad you made it again and enjoyed it!!1 It looks fabulous!!!
And I’m dying to try those quaker bars! I hope mine come soon!!!
I played violin for many years when I was younger, and sang a little bit. My brother is the really talented musical one in the family though!!
happy Humpday beautiful Jenn!
Your tofu looks great…and I’m not even a fan of tofu.
I was quite musical when I was younger. I played the clarinet for 9 years and was in concert, marching and honor band…a.k.a. NERD! 🙂
I still haven’t tried making tofu, i’m such a scary cat 🙂 Yours looks like it turned out perfect- yum yum! I need to try those quaker bars! They look so nutritious! Glad the WFs presentation went well. Have a great day
I took piano lessons when I was 5 and 6, but quit because dancing was a lot more fun. I then played the clarinet from 5th – 7th grade and then I told the band teacher that I was getting braces and the clarinet would affect the correction of my teeth (real reason was I wanted to become a cheerleader). I would like to take piano lessons again.
Did you save the screen shot as a JPEG? Perhaps you have to resize it – it could be too large.
Hooray for Gliding Calm Tofu – I haven’t officially made it just yet, but it’s on my agenda 🙂
I never played an instrument. Even after an ex-bf bought me a starter violin because I love them so much, I couldn’t get the hang of it. It was too hard to teach this old dog new tricks.
Good to hear the presentation went well, and that those Quaker bars are tasty…although, that just makes me want to try them more. HA!
And the only musical instruments I played were the ones we had to play in school – recorder in grade 3, ukelele in grades 4 & 5, guitar in grade 6, recorded in grade 7. Now I play Rockband drums 😉
have fun at dance class!!! Glad the presentation went well.
That bar looks awesome with that huge chunk of coconut. Drool.
Yummy tofu! I haven’t tried to make my own in a long time, but this doesn’t look too hard!
For the screen shots, try Command-Shift-3 to take a screen shot of the screen, and save it as a file on the desktop. Try Command-Shift-4, then select an area to take a screen shot of a selected area and save it as a file on the desktop. Or try Command-Shift-4, then space, then click a window to take a screen shot of a window and save it as a file on the desktop. Hope that helps!
I played the violin and viola in middle school! I really miss it!
I had Gliding Calm’s Tofu for dinner last night and lunch today too! So yummy. Good luck at the dance class. I wish my husband would agree to one!
i cant ever get my tofu crispy. i think im too impatient. or it ends up sticking.
Thanks for the shout out! extra entry!

The hummus looks tasty!
And whoa, that tofu looks amazing!
That tofu is still on my list of things to make! Now I’m craving it more!
good luck with the ballroom classes! i’m not sure if i could get my boyfriend to do something like that! 🙂
That tofu looks SO good. I am really cravin’ some! If only I had an oven!!
Have fun at dance class..that sounds amazing!
I can’t wait to get tofu and try this out!! So many of y’all are eating the tofu Gliding Glam style, I used to be afraid to try tofu….scared I guess it wouldnt be good!
So happy the WF presentation went well!
As for an instrument.. they made us learn to play the flute in music class during elementary school. Aside from that I just dont understand music!
Go 24! I didn’t watch it last season because of the outrageous gross-ness, but I am definitely hooked this season. Who’s your favorite character?
Random Answer – I play piano & violin. My sister additionally plays guitar.
That tofu is making it’s rounds today in blog world! Kudos Gliding calm!I can’t wait to make it now!I hope school is going well-have you heard back a/b your tape you sent in?
Your Gliding Calm Tofu looks so good. I really want to try it with the brown sugar. The sweet/savory combo sounds like perfection.
I love that you make eggs in the micro too- it reminds me of the first time by Dad showed me how to do it. I thought it was so cool!
I’m glad that your Whole Foods presentation went well! I hope you get an A.
As for my musical talents- I used to play Clarinet from 6th-9th grade. Yes, I was in band freshman year of highschool!! And I started guitar lessons my freshman year of college. I still play, but rarely. I do wish I practiced more.
Never played an instrument before. I have zero musical talent – besides singing along to the radio 🙂
I noticed your silpat under the tofu. Do you like it? I’ve seen these everywhere recently. Do you just put it under anything you’re baking on a baking sheet?
Your tofu looks amazing! I also love the idea of microwaving an egg white! How long do u put it in there for?
I used to play flute!
I played piano for about 3 years in junior high, begged my mom to let me quit, and she finally allowed it…i sucked! haha
Speaking of my mom, she called me last night and started reading TWILIGHT!!! She’s obsessed…of course I had to do the “I told ya so” dance a little bit 😉
mmmm i love gliding calm tofu!
i played the violin in 3-4th grade and then the clarinet from 5-12 but I wasn’t very good! hehe.
have fun tonight!
I’m a former pianist too! I played from age 5 to 16 and then I was donezo.
I hope you get the pics to work because I’d love to see that powerpoint!
Definitely a musician. Classically trained flutist growing up, even majored in it in college. I still entertain ideas of going back for a masters in flute performance and pursuing a career out of it.
Can’t wait to hear how dance goes!
YUM! That YUM can be applied to the GC tofu (I’m making tonight) the chunkier than thou Quaker bar, the yummus, and the double dose of Coffee Cocoa!
Ahh…you don’t even know what an incredible clarinet player I am. Not really, but I did play it for two years in middle school. First chair baby, how do you like me NEEOW?!?!?!
The tofu looks perfect! About the bar, I totally agree with you re: not fake and the nasto corn syrup.
I played the violin. It was oodles of fun.
You like your tofu just like I do – slightly blackened! I like the crispiness it adds too.
I studied piano for 14 years – it was my life growing up and I got to do some cool things like play with an orchestra and get invited to study at a workshop in Brussels. I bought a piano a few years ago, but I rarely play – it’s hard to suck at something I was once so good at!
OMG, ALL of your food looks amazing!!! I have been dying to try baked tofu and after seeing yours, that’s it – I’m heading to the store for some tofu TOMORROW!!!!!
I played piano until I was 12. I sit down every once and awhile to play and find I really enjoy it. I would love to take lessons again someday:)
I’m a tofu virgin still! I ashamed of my v-card 🙁 I need to try this delish GC tofu!
Glad you liked the bar! Yummy hummus 🙂
I played the clarinet for 4 years!
I like how hw is optional =]
I played piano in elementary school and briefly tried electrical guitar in middle school ’cause I was cool. Not that cool, ’cause I stopped hahah.
have fun dancing!
tofu looks wonderful! I am thinking about making it sometime soon!
I used to play the violin and the piano in elementary school…. never really even like it though
Ha – I had eggs with toast with eggs this morning too. Such a great combo! I’ve got to try Gliding Calm’s tofu. Soy used to bother my stomach, but not so much anymore. Your version makes me want to go buy a block of tofu right now!
OK, so what’s the exact formula for your coffee cocoa? I know you use Silk vanilla creamer, but then do you simply add hot chocolate powder?
Sounds like you have a busy rest of the day. Can’t wait to hear about your dance class. I took piano lessons for 3 years, and the only tune I remember is the theme song to Cheers 🙂
i seriously need to make coffee cocoa… why am i intimidated by it?? i need to go for it!
never get enough of miss gc’s amazing tofu. that stuff is GLORIOUS
i hope you’re having so much fun dancing it up– can’t wait to hear all about it!
i played the violin (8 years), flute (which i faked.. i could never make a sound with it! for 1 year) and have played piano since i was 10… i still do, but definitely not as well as i used to.
have a wonderful night!
I’m so glad your presentation turned well.. good luck with the Mac! I had the same tofu just now 🙂
I had that same bar as a snack today, and was SO impressed! Can’t wait for them to come out in the stores here!
I took piano lessons but only learned how to play somewhere over the rainbow before I quit.
And all your eats look delicous!
Your bloag and eats are fabulous! I really need to try tofu.. I’ve been seeing it everywhere lately and I need to join the fun!
I can’t believe I’m going to admit this, but I played the accordion for almost 5 years when I was a kid. My parents asked me what instrument I wanted to play and I told them a piano. Next thing I know, a man as at the house with this “thing”. Boy, I did not enjoy that instrument! We all laugh about it now!!
Love the tofu and those bars are fabulous!!!
Yummy eats! I played the clarinet, reluctantly, from 6th to 11th grade. I fought my mother to let me take choral, and finally by my senior year of high school she let me. And who could forget elementary school’s famed recorder. Who didn’t love Hot Cross Buns?
Yay! Congratulations on the completed, excellent presentation 🙂
I was a piano and percussion player for a while…I quit too though! I guess when junior high rolled around I was too cool.
I hope your dance lessons go/went well. I’m sure you and Bobby were fab dancers!!
i played the flute in jr high and then played the piano for 9 years while growing up. i miss them both!
I’m going to look into the gliding calm tofu – it’s everywhere i read now!
and i played the violin for quite a number of years.. 🙂
Mmm baked tofu. It seriously is a mad delicious recipe. I can’t wait to make more. I think I’m going to start making baked tofu more of a staple food. I make it too rarely right now, and it’s too delicious to be forgotten about all the time!
I’m going to make myself a note to eat some toast asap. For realz.
I love everything you’ve got here. You’re making me seriously crave some proooootein.
Have fun at the dance class, that sounds awesome! I want to take a dance class. Something silly like belly dancing though, I don’t know if I could take ballroom serious enough haha.
As for instruments, I took piano lessons very briefly and learned the violin basics in grade 7 and 8. Oh, and in grade 1 and 2 our music classes consisted of learning the recorder. I can play a mean ‘Hakuna Matata’ on that thing 😉
You’re making me want to try that tofu. Oh, and I like my tofu blackened and crunchy too:)
I played piano for about 5 years, but I really took it only to supplement my voice lessons (does that count as an instrument too? If so, I sang for about 7 years). I also played the flute randomly for about a year.
jenn!! wow you eat such great, balanced, fun meals EVERYDAY!!!
And your workout shedule is sooo admirable, especially these past few weeks you have just become gnarly!! haha! Is there a certain calorie range you shoot for with each meal/snack?? Your proportions are so ideal and I was just curious as to how you plan the meals out!!!!!
Thanks! 🙂
By the way, played piano for almost 6 or 7 years, too many, it was nice and all but 30 minute lessons on fridays after school were nottt the most fun way to start my weekend when I was a little gal!! haha!
We were Gliding Calm Tofu twinsies last night! 😀 Yours looks good–I haven’t perfected mine yet. It’s still delicious and hard to mess up though!
I played the piano as a kid but gave it up and wish I hadn’t 🙁
Your tofu looks perfect! I’m ashamed to say that I’ve never made Gliding Calm’s tofu, but I really think that I need to soon! I love a sweet+salty combo!
Hope you are doing well, girl!
Gliding Calm tofu may have recently become my new obsession. Have fun at your dance class!
That tofu looks great – Miss GC is getting tons of shout outs this week! 🙂
I sent you an email about the PPT sreenshots! 🙂
I took voice lessons for years and used to compete and went to specials camps, schools blah blah…. when I went to college I stopped doing it “seriously” and now I just do it around my house. Sometimes on YouTube. If you’re curious you can poke around the links on my blog and find it. 🙂
mmmm….gliding calm tofu
one of these days i will try the gliding calm tofu.. one of these days..!!
i was a master whiz kid at instruments.. violin, viola, piano, dabbled in drums for a bit.. but my favorite was singing.. i used to sing the National Anthem at my high school basketball games.. and at the local speedway in Mass… FUN TIMES!
I dont have a Mac, so not sure because my PC has a “print screen” button I use. sorry!
I played the piano for 8 years when i was younger. Then clarinet during middle school, but I was horrible.
I played flute through high school, but haven’t touched it since. I got tired of it. I’m not really a very musical person.
http://www.seejessrun.com
It isn’t easy to make tofu actually LOOK good, but you managed!
I must have missed a prior post, what do you teach/demo at Whole Foods?
Nope, musically challenged here.
If you’re digging toast, you should definitely check out ZestyCook’s toast post: http://zestycook.com/zestys-top-ten-toast-toppings/
yum!
-Kelsey
PS. Thanks for the link to the Barney Butter free shipping. I just got my order, and it’s amazing!
Oooh! Are you doing ballroom as one of the Norris courses? My friends who did it last year absolutely LOVED it. 🙂 How cute! What a perfect thing to do senior year. I heard the cocktail/mixing classes are pretty awesome too!
Your tofu looks lovely. I’m so happy to see people who don’t usually eat certain things try out new recipes.
Anyway, I’m a failed Asian music-wise. I played the piano for 5 years and never took any tests, I played the recorder for 4, and I taught myself the guitar for 2 years but I lost it all. EVERYTHING. *sigh* Hence, I’m a failed Asian. Oh, and I’m not a math super-star.
You have no idea how happy I am to see a review of the True Delights Toasted Macadamia Coconut Banana etc… bars!!! I saw those y’day at the grocery store and almost bought them… they looked like the best flavor, or the most tempting. but I was skeptical and trying to cut down on my grocery bill so I passed. But now that I know they’re good I will have to pick a box up!!!
Bender, I have been hearing about this tofu all over the internet blogging world. I better try this. It looks amazing!
[…] Allison from Green Dog Wine was kind enough to send me an email this morning in response to my dilemma with the PowerPoint yesterday. She helped me out big time by actually taking the screen shots for me, and I now have […]
it is a great way to prepare tofu! i played the piano for awhile…
