Beyond cooler temperatures – and less humidity, thank goodness – there are a few surefire ways to know that fall is approaching. Since fall is my favorite season, I thought I would call them to your attention and also learn what you’re most excited about when the leaves begin to change.
First and foremost, there is pumpkin beer.
Bobby and I picked up Blue Moon Harvest Pumpkin Ale at the grocery store last week. It was a huge concession on his part, since he usually tries to avoid everything pumpkin. However, after forcing asking him nicely to just try it, he realized what he was missing.
I’d call that a “pump”-ed up success story. (Too much of a stretch?)
Another sign of fall? Warm meals. Bobby and I have had soup twice in a row this week. We also brought back belly-filling whole wheat pasta.
The tomato sauce had added frozen veggies to make it even chunkier, while the chicken was seasoned with my favorite white wine and herb marinade mix.
The third and perhaps best sign of fall? COLLEGE FOOTBALL STARTS THIS WEEKEND!
That’s right, friends. Dan Persa is back from an injury that kept him out of the final weeks of Northwestern football last season. It promises to be a very exciting year for the Wildcats.
But that’s not all.
My beloved Packers will be back for regular season on September 8 against the Saints. If you’re a football fan, you know what happened last year. A repeat would be just fine with me. Perhaps I’ll make a batch of Green + Gold Soup to make sure the season kicks off on the right foot.
Obsessed with football? Why yes, yes I am we are.
Technically, fall begins at the end of the September. But for me, the celebrating starts after the coming Labor Day Weekend. Speaking of which, I am delighted to share that I will be visiting my third new niece over the holiday! I truly can’t wait to meet her.
While I’m gone, you can expect a book review and other random musings. As you’ve probably noticed over the past few days, I’ve been getting back into a more frequent posting schedule. I’m still experimenting with the days that work best and hope to settle into a groove soon.
So now, tell me! What represents fall to you? What are you most excited for this season?
Abrazos,
Hooooray for pumpkin! I can’t get enough of the goodness…no matter what season. I’m not a HUGE fall fan…I don’t like when it gets chilly π But I love me some Big 10 football! Kaylin has her PSU outfits (yes, she has four and we didn’t even purchase any of them) ready to go! That soup looks fantastic
i think fall is represented to me in fashion (which is strange because i’m really not fashionable). i immediately think: boots, sweaters, scarves. my favorite clothing items of all!
You and your family are so funny with the Skyping. π Although, for the record (again), I totally don’t support your allegiances! I’m super excited for football season, but I’m not ready at all for fall. Plus it’s going to be 95 out tomorrow- crazy!
I am most excited about… Pumpkin! Love it to pieces π
yay for more posting! I’m liking it! now if only I could get on that bandwagon…haha.
And for this fall, I can’t wait for apple picking!!!! The varieties of apples around here is amazing…my mouth is watering just thinking about it.
I’m also REALLY excited for college football. I’m a Hawkeye fan (your darn Wildcats keep beating us!). Pretty sure I was at that game when Persa got hurt. Is it too early to bring out the fall scented candles?
Ah, how crazy that you were at the game! I absolutely love the Hawkeye/Wildcat rivalry. Of course, I can say that since it has been swinging our way the past few years, but I’m excited to see what happens this season! It always keeps me on my toes! π
My summer has been so ridiculously crazy that for the first time in my life I haven’t even really thought about it approaching… but now that tomorrow is September 1 I guess it’s almost here which is exciting! It’s absolutely my favorite season… just wish it lasted longer than like 2 weeks in Chicago before winter comes around π
Hope you are doing wonderfully, Jenn!
I agree — it’s way too short! We definitely need to plan something fall-ish soon, Val. I miss you!
To me fall is all about pumpkin–I know, that is such a foodie thing to say! But really, I look forward to baking pumpkin bread every year, not to mention our annual trip to the pumpkin patch!
I’m not a fan of fruity beers (I can maybe down 1) – how does the pumpkin beer stack up? Could you drink more than one of them? I’m so enthralled with my Brewers, I haven’t even had time to think about the Pack . . . but I would love to see them play well again this year. Fall is my favorite season as well, but I’m sad to see the summer ending as it is so short to begin with. Take care – enjoy your blog!
Mo
I actually tested this question over the weekend and found that yes, I can definitely drink more than one. π I haven’t tried it with cinnamon and sugar on the rim yet, but I’ve heard that makes it taste like pumpkin pie, in which case it would be so sweet that one would probably be much more realistic!
So excited to hear from a fellow Packer fan. Can’t wait for Thursday! Thanks for the sweet comment about my blog, Mo!
School starting always represents fall for me, even if I’m not going back. That, and local apples. And windy, sunny days with leaves falling off trees. Oh yeah…and hockey starts up again! Woot!
School starting definitely hit me this year! We live near a dorm downtown and it felt so odd seeing everyone moving in and feeling as though I was officially out of the college world. And I know you’re a big hockey fan — Bobby is, too!
I love fall! I look forward to apple picking, pumpkin picking, and eating beef stew!
OMG that looks so good! love fall brews!
