Thank you so much for your sweet and encouraging comments in my last post. I really am looking forward to this new format and the possibilities that come with it and am glad to see that you are, too π So let’s get to it!
Introducing: Mish Mosh
My summer internship office recently introduced a brand spankin’ new plan for going green that includes biodegradable silverware and plates and more recycle bins around the office. We were also given some fabulous new Nalgene bottles that are praised for being BPA-free. Little did we know that the FDA would decide that this controversial chemical is safe.
Really? It kind of reminds me of the NutraSweet/aspartame controversy. I think I’ll play this one safe and avoid BPA-infused products whenever possible. If it’s a big enough deal that companies are willing to spend the money to create new products that are BPA-free, there’s likely a good reason.

Attention, foodie friends π Did you know that Dr. Sanjay Gupta recently posted a food diary of his own? It’s not nearly as detailed and gorgeous as those in the food blog world, but still interesting to read. He even talks about mindlessly munching M&M’s, and how his wife changed the dinner plan to reflect his extra “snack” – pretty intense! The food diary is becoming more and more mainstream!

Well, as if you needed another reason to eat oatmeal! I did a Google search on this superfood this morning and found this amazing article that discusses why you should eat it and how to dress it up. Below are some of my favorite parts – the last one is particularly DELECTABLE:
“Oatmeal contains a wide array of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and is a good source of protein, complex carbohydrates and iron.”
“The fiber and other nutrients found in oatmeal may actually reduce the risk for certain cancers.”
“Add a single tablespoon of ice cream to your oatmeal. Your mouth will go crazy with pleasure as the cool ice cream mingles with the warm oats.”
“Honorable mention goes to these oatmeal additions, most of which should only be enjoyed by really skinny people: whipped cream, chocolate chips, mini-marshmallows, butter and brown sugar, crumbled candy bars (seriously) and eggnog.”
Seriously?! EGGNOG OATMEAL!! I know what I’m going to be making this Christmas!
And this picture is my favorite of all time, which I took at Walker Bros. – YUM!

And finally, an article for the perfectionists and/or organizers out there. It discusses several ways to get your email under control. I know that personally, I benefited a lot from this article because I tend to let my inbox bulk up throughout the week and then have a massive cleaning session over the weekend. Using some of these straightforward and slightly obvious tips – particularly the one that involves the key called DELETE – will definitely help me avoid that overwhelming feeling of having so many emails to respond to or read!

And that’s this week’s Mish Mosh. See you tonight for 5 Things I Learned Today
Very cool that your company is going green!
And hooray for oatmeal, don’t ya just love it!
LOVE THIS MISH MOSH FEATURE!!!! I’m a foodie, an oatmeal-lover, AND a perfectionist, so of course those tidbits interested me right away π
I already love the Mish Mosh feature π I never would have thought of adding a tiny bit of ice cream to my oatmeal. Neat!
eggnog oatmea! sweet! i love how oatmeal can be varied with so many different ideas, reading this has really nagged me to correct the fact that i have no rolled oats in the house at the moment!! it’s a sin!
and yes, the delete button…. i wonder why it disappears when i check my mail….
loving this new blog idea already!
I have that blue Nalgene. Camelbak has some BPA-free ones, too, but they’re smaller, and I heart my big 32-oz Nalgene. π
Is it wrong to add alcoholic egg nog to your breakfast oatmeal? Cause oh my gosh, that would be tasty. Maybe just on Christmas…
Yay!
I am so doing the candy bar oatmeal. WITH ice cream.
Jenn, this is great! So much fun info! I love the new stuff already. I too, like to have a bit of structure during the school year to keep my head straight π
I like the new format!!
hiiiii! first of all, great new feature! i just finished catching up on your posts from this weekend and I really like the decisions you’ve made about the future of the blog.
This weekend at the hotel restaurant they had S’mores Oatmeal! I didn’t try it but it sounded so good and I definitely want to try to recreate it at home. Basically it had marshmallows and chocolate chips mixed in and was topped with crushed graham crackers. Yumm!
C ~ I really do love it! Can’t get enough of it, in fact π
VeggieGirl ~ I’m so glad you like it!
Foodie ~ Yay, I’m glad you enjoyed the ice cream tidbit π
wholefoodswholeme ~ I love that about oatmeal, too. And I have that same problem with the delete key!
Fit Bottomed Girls ~ I like your style π I think I might take you up on that!
Erin ~ YUM – even better!
Karla ~ Thank you so much – I’m so glad you understand π
arielle ~ Thank you!
Sarah ~ Hiiii back!! I’m so glad you like the new features and OH.MY.GOSH. s’mores oatmeal?! That sounds incredible! I can’t wait to see your version π
I swear. oatmeal is going to take over the world! with candy bars?! with ice cream?! i only learned about savory oatmeal through the blogworld, but this is seriously getting OUT OF CONTROL.
And I’m happy I have my free SIGG water bottle. I never got into the whole nalgene craze. Though seeing people try to run over them with their cars, or smash them on the ground was always amusing…since they were claimed “un-breakable!”
Have a great night lady!
I went to a local store to try to get those Zevia and they didnt have it… but both there and target I found these waters that are so good and I will blog about hopefully tommorow!
I always make eggnog oatmeal near the holidays. It is delicious!
i love the new format…
ohmigod egg oatmeal!
This was so great. I am with you on the BPA. Who knows what is safe anymore? And more reasons to love oatmeal – wonderful!
Love the new water bottle! What a nice treat during your last week! Love all of the fun pics on the blog today and what a great post!
i love the new feature for mondays, and every other day of the week! i’m so excited to read your entries (not that i wasn’t before, but now i’m even MORE excited!). and those oatmeal additions…i’m seriously going to have to try some of those…maybe throwing in some of my mini TJ pb cups would work…lol!
glidingcalm ~ I think if oatmeal took over the world, I’d be ok with it…
Christie ~ Can’t wait to read about it!
Megan ~ YUM! I really can’t wait to try it!
caitlin ~ Thank you! π
hangrypants ~ I’m glad you agree – and thanks!
Erica ~ Definitely a great treat – and thank you!
Melissa ~ Thanks so much π And I think those mini TJ pb cups would be freakin’ amazing!!
Loving the new format already!! And thanks for the Sanjay Gupta link. I think that will be very interesting. And I am not sure if I am thanking you for the oats ideasβ¦..my βhealthyβ oats may be taking a turn for the worst—hello ice cream and marshmallows!!

Good for you for refusing to blindly accept what the FDA feeds consumers! As an author of one of the studies done on polycarbonate bottles, I can tell you that I no longer use one either!
Fitzalan ~ I’m so glad you’re enjoying it π And yes, I’m not sure about those new oat ideas, either!
Emily ~ Wow, really? That’s great! Actually, there’s a lot of stuff the FDA puts out there that I refuse to blindly accept π If you see this comment, feel free to email me at eatingbender@gmail.com – I’m sure we would have a lot to discuss!
Mmmm eggnog… do we have to wait for Christmas π but I hate it when people turn “healthy” foods into a heart attack plate like that π
