Pam and Jim never cease to make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside Don’t worry, no spoilers ahead if you haven’t seen the episode (that quote is featured in the TV teaser). Let’s just say it was a good one and it made the fact that Friday was October 16, 2009 – one year away! – that much sweeter. I can’t believe we are now less than a year away, but at the same time I couldn’t be more excited!
Bobby and I woke up with Yoga X on Saturday morning. This fall I’ve really started getting into yoga and could not be more thrilled to be one of the winners of Erica’s recent giveaway. I’m planning on putting that sticky mat to good use, since my current one slips and slides all over the place!
I also have a FREE week pass to CorePower Yoga. I hope to try a hot yoga class π
The point of me telling you all of this is after our yoga session, I tried out a new way of toweling off:Β Pond’s Wet Cleansing Towelettes. I was excited to receive these free samples in the mail because they can be used to both remove makeup and/or sweat after a workout session.
Yes, I am a dork – but we knew this already, right? I thought these wipes did a great job at cooling off my face post-workout. I have very sensitive skin and these did not irritate my face at all, which is always a big accomplishment. I would definitely buy these again, especially if I end up going to a yoga studio. These would be great to use to refresh my skin before I drive home.
After cleaning up, I sat down to breakfast while watching a disheartening Northwestern football game.
There was some Coffee Cocoa involved – although your cottage cheese guesses on my last post were equally likely, as I love that “CC,” too! I also filled up on a big bowl o’ oats, since it’s quite chilly in our apartment. The bowl featured the usual suspects:
- 1/2 cup oatmeal
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. pumpkin spice
- 1 tbsp. Maranatha crunchy almond butter
- Sprinkle of maple sugar
I love almond butter! I’ve grown to prefer it over peanut butter – the nutty flavor is better.
After breakfast, I did some writing and catching up on emails while continuing to watch the Wildcats lose. It was nice to talk to my VeggieFriend and I also had a phone conversation with a girl I was best friends with over 15 years ago…and haven’t talked to since! She found me on Facebook and we had a blast catching up. It’s crazy how Facebook can reunite old friends – I love it.
While I chatted with my blast from the past, I lunched on a delicious wrap: hummus, spinach and turkey in a Flat Out wrap. I also had a honeycrisp apple with more almond buttah.
Later in the afternoon, I decided to take a walk to Whole Foods. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to buy a small pie pumpkin π I needed some fall cheer! The weather has put me in a gloomy state lately.
We watched a few episodes of The Office – all caught up now! – while sipping on some red wine that was on sale at the grocery store: [yellow tail] Merlot.
Ehhh…not my fave. We are on a mission to find cheap, good tasting wine, and this did not fit the latter description π Anyone have any recommendations??
We took a break from watching TV to start dinner. I picked up a bag of fingerling potatoes at the grocery store – love them! I coated them in olive oil, garlic salt, Emeril’s seasoning and pepper. We then baked them covered at 350* for 30 minutes, then another 10 minutes uncovered. They turned out great!
Bobby worked on stir-frying the chicken in ginger + soy sauce, and I worked on the veggies. The result was a filling combination of fiber + protein. We both agreed when we were done that we were filled to the gills, but it was all good stuff π
The fingerling potatoes were so flavorful and soft! Also, stir-frying chicken on the stove is so quick and easy, that it should be a crime. Apart from the potatoes, this dinner was ready in under 10 minutes!
Now I’m being lazy on Sunday morning while watching more Gossip Girl. On the agenda today:
- Laundry (and lots of it!)
- Cleaning
- Writing
- Running
- Breakfast for dinner
I love productive weekends with no plans. I’m such a homebody. [Yes, I admit it proudly.]
Abrazos,
Hooray for great chats with great friends π
Mmmmm your coffee cocoa and oatmeal look delicious… and very huggable π π
Hope you cheer up soon; pumpkins always make me smile. Just something about their bright orange hue… and the fact that they signify Halloween is coming up!
Love,
Katie
Postsecret book under the pumpkin? Love it π
And I love those Pond’s make-up remover thingies. So convenient!
Hey! Thank you for the shout out. I’m super glad you won and know you will enjoy the mat!I’m such a homebody too. My favorite weekends involve cooking, working out, spending time with Josh/Frank and sleeping! Your dinner looks wonderful- especialy those potatoes
That dinner looks delish (along with the rest of the meals)! Your weekend sounds lovely and relaxing. I’m an admitted homebody too π
Those Ponds wipes are great post-workout if you can’t do a full face wash. I use them all the time!
SO excited to catch up soon! Have a fabulous rest of your weekend.
Every time that TV preview came on for The Office (specifically the line you quoted), I would tear up. They’re just so darn cute!!!
If $10 wine is cheap enough, there is a boxed wine brand (1 Liter instead of 750 ml – better deal!) called Three Thieves “Bandit” that has really delicious Pinot Grigio and Merlot. I haven’t tried the other ones so if those two types aren’t your cup of wine (haha, I think I’m hilarious), I’d bet their other types are pretty delicious too π
I am a major homebody. Today especially, I feel as though I’ve done nothing. It’s actually quite soothing though…TV’s off, windows are open (cool air in FL!), lounging in sweats, cuddling with hubs…I love weekends like these. π
I also love weekends with no plans. I am a huge homebody and could stay home all the time!
Add me to the homebody club. I love staying in and catching up on tv. I know you’re supposed to do all sorts of fun things on the weekends, but most of the time I’m just too darn tired.
The fingerling potatoes look great. I just added them to my grocery list. Thanks for the idea π
I foresee many downward dogs in your future — enjoy pretty yogini π
and girrrrrl I am the definition of a homebody. I’m pretty sure I’ll still be living with my parents when ‘m 30 years old. no shame, no shame at all. Okay – maybe there’d be a little shame in that..
have a faboosh Sunday, bender! xo
That was such a sweet Office episode! I do have a suggestion for a cheap wine. I picked up The Wandering Grape Malbec-merlot at Target the other day (8.99 on sale from 10.99) It’s so tasty! Very smooth full bodied taste. Of course I’m no expert, I just like what tastes good.
What a fun day! You can’t go wrong with old Three Buck Chuck from Trader Joe’s!
If you like Merlot, my husband and I have been very impressed with Blackstone Merlot (thanks to a coincidence of 3 couples bringing them to dinner parties). I don’t remember how much it is but definitely under $15. π
HOW perf was that episode?? ha the perfect blend of awkwardness and sentimental mushiness i loved it! Hmm i am combing your comments now for wine suggestions π I suck at picking out good ones! All of my friends were in Chi this weekend- but I’m looking at Dec so i’ll have to email u and see when/if ur heading to AZ for xmas, probably! K off to go make a snuggie purchase ;D xo love ya girlie
yummy eats!
jenna
I don’t know what I love more, Jim + Pam or fingerling potatoes!! I swear, every single time I watched the promo commercial for the wedding episode I teared up! That’s not TOO pathetic, right? π
Love the little pumpkin I am experimenting with mine this week:)
I’m a yoga teacher and so I LOVE That you’re getting into yoga…and all these free yoga goodies? Why hasn’t the yoga swag fairy come to my house? Dang some Chicago girls apparently have all the luck π
Cheap wine that’s not awful? Trader’s Joe’s Two Buck Chuck. I havent drank in 4 years though since having my daughter so I am not one to ask…these days. Rumor has it though I used to love my liquor once upon a time π
Happy Sunday Jenn!
Bolla’s Vallopicella.
A little hard to find, but most grocery stores carry it and it is a find!! Under 10 bucks (here anyway) and smooth and delicious. A nice red for the fall weather…at least I think so!
I would never think to use those wipes after a workout!! I am going to have to try it!!
I’m proud to be a homebody too π
Wine suggestions (approx $10 each):
RED: “Our Daily Red” organic red — I’m not normally a big fan of reds, but this one I really like. There’s no grape designation — label just says table red. π
WHITE: “Relax” reisling. My #1 fave wine! This is one that doesn’t need any pairing…just drink it alone. It’s fab!
Happy sipping! π
I came across your blog earlier today and I’m so glad I did! Your idea for the potatoes is a really good one. I’m probably going to try it once this week or next.
I’m always looking for new things to try. I get so tired of making the same things over and over just because I know they’re healthy.
Looking forward to more of your posts π
I wish I could help you with the wine thing, but the only two wines I really like are Polka Dot Riesling and Barefoot moscato.
Love you dear!! HUGS!
ooh, almond butter and honey crisps… my loves!! great looking dinner, too π
Those potatoes look amazing–cute AND delicious!
That line totally melted me, too π And the one about Plan A, Plan B, Plan C π
I am noticing everyone has stemless wine glasses these days! Must be the new trend. How sophisticated π
I love that you paired the stir-fry with potatoes! I am half Chinese and half Caucasian, so I like that significance π
greetings from the other end of the weekend from a fellow yoga doing yellowtail loving homebody.
ugh, Jim and Pam are too sweet π LOVED it.
What is this maple sugar? It sounds awesome!
I love weekends like that, too. I’m definitely a homebody.
Thanks for the Pond’s review! I’ve become really lazy lately and have been relying on those to take off my make up (which I shouldn’t because I need to use my real face wash).
Sorry about the loss! Then again I almost went to State so….. π
Catching up with long lost friends is always so fun! It’s crazy how small the world is getting due to the internet – kind of fun though! I love fingerling potatoes!! They’re so cute and cute food is 10x tastier! I’ll shoot you and email sometime this week – I’m unfortunately swamped with bio, grr!
loved that episode and LOVE Jim and Pam! delicious looking dinner! π
I loved that line π
Are you sure those are fingerling potatoes?? I thought fingerlings were long and skinny…like fingers haha. Maybe these are just another variety? Anywhoooo looks delicious!
Tina ~ I think so! That’s what the packaging said at least π I Googled to make sure and the images look similar, so I think we’re good!
That Office episode KILLED me! I definitely teared up a little bit.
Agreed on the almond butter preference. Too bad it’s so much pricier than PB!! Though I have found giant jars of Marantha at Costco that weren’t too expensive.
Hope you’re having a good Monday π
Ahh…I don’t even watch the show, but that line on the commercials and her face when he says it…Perfection!
I had my friend’s wedding this weekend and I kept thinking about yours!!
So.much.fun.
Love the eats, and you are so cute with your wipes!!!
Oh and I have to do this (read my last post to know why): producers- autotrophs (self-feeders), make the nutrients that they need from compounds and energy obtained from the environment. Many capture sunlight to produce glucose (sugar) by PHOTOSYNTHESIS. :p
That line made me cry.. best Office episode ever.
Trying to find good, cheap wine? That should be a fun mission!
that ep was THE cutest. yes, i may have cried a bit π hapy minus one year (kyle and i had ours in august)…hows the wedding planning going? this weekend i went home (to ca) and bought a wedding dress. cuh-razyyyyyy!
Smoking Loon is a great cheap wine! I’ve used the pond wipes before and love them. They are very hand to have around!
LOVED that episode! Jim and Pam are the sweetest couple on TV I think π
Hmm, I like the Yellow Tail Pinot Noir, but if you don’t mind spending a few extra bucks, my favorite Pinot Noir is Mirassou (about $12 per bottle)…but SO worth it!
I echo that last sentiment x1000! While I love getting out and doing new things, it’s hard to tempt me away from home after a long work week. π
And yeah I totally swooned at that line from The Office.
