Even though this post is a few days late, I wanted to make sure to celebrate our eight year anniversary on the blog this year! Yes, Bobby and I are married now, and one would think that means our dating anniversary becomes a bit outdated, but November 16 will always have a special place in our lives.
We celebrated eight years last Wednesday night with a trip to Roy’s Restaurant, which we visited earlier this year for a tasting. We were all smiles, even as the winter cold and flash combination made us look like ghosts.
We made our reservation in advance, and Roy’s was nice enough to make us a special menu!
As always, we began with edamame, which is the Roy’s equivalent of bread. I love their salty seasoning.
I decided to go with the fall prix fixe menu, which came with an appetizer, entree and dessert. I chose the crispy potato croquettes as my appetizer, which were made with salted cod, chive, smoked paprika and a macadamia nut romesco. I shared with Bobby – they were incredible!
For my entree, I chose the brown butter seared salmon, which came with a maple cranberry sausage and warm potato salad (one of the best side dishes I’ve ever had) and stone ground mustard.
Bobby went with the sea scallops, one of his go-to seafood dishes, and was not disappointed.
The proof was in the blurry smile on his face.
For dessert, we shared the harvest spice cake, a white chocolate pumpkin mousse with cranberry sauce. It also came with blueberries and powdered sugar. Oh my, we devoured this in less than a minute.
Roy’s surprised us by also bringing out a special anniversary treat: warm fudge brownies!
We had a wonderful time – big thanks to Roy’s for making our evening delicious!
This past weekend, Bobby and I attended our last season ticket Northwestern football game.
The Wildcats beat the Minnesota Gophers, making them bowl eligible! That said, they need a big win against Michigan State this weekend to really seal the deal. We’ll be watching from Arizona, where we are visiting for Thanksgiving!
I can’t wait to share a Papa Bender Thanksgiving with all of you, complete with green bean casserole! Not to mention my beloved Packers are playing against the Lions on the feast day. It’s going to be a fun week. š
What are your plans for Thanksgiving?
Wishing you safe travels and happy eating, no matter where or how (or even if) you’re celebrating!
