Ciao Bellas!

I received the following email from Bob Diesel this morning:

: )

Your friends are the best! Tell them on your next post I said thanks!

You all made his day, so thank you! And for those who suggested it, we are indeed going to celebrate this weekend! We’re planning a special dinner at McCormick & Schmick’s. Yum!

I am so thankful that the weekend is finally here! I have two papers to write, but at least now I finally have the time to write them 🙂 This morning, I woke up and made myself a very familiar looking protein-packed breakfast. I had three egg whites scrambled with spinach and topped with fat free feta cheese to start.

dscn1363

Plus a plain Chobani topped with banana slices and 1 tsp. maple syrup.

dscn1366

I know it’s a repeat, but I’m finding that this particular combination 1) fills me up for hours and 2) doesn’t leave me feeling too full when I’m sitting at work. The second reason is key because I hate that uncomfortably full feeling when I know that I’m going to sit on my butt for an extended period of time.

dscn1362

I brought along the usual mug of Coffee Cocoa on the car ride. By the way, I’d like to give a shout out to girlrunningaround for trying her own version of my drink (click link for recipe) earlier this week! I tell ya, once you put even a smidge of cocoa in your coffee, it’s hard to go back! If you ever try it, let me know if I’m right.

dscn1368

Work went by pretty durn fast today, but toward the end I was getting a little hangry, so I decided to break out my usual bar snack a little early. I tried another new one today.

dscn1370

I bought this one because it said Double Dark Chocolate, not gonna lie 🙂 It had a pretty good nutritional profile, too, although there were a couple of sketchy ingredients in there. You can click that link to see what I mean. But overall, not bad. And it tasted really good! I think it’s because it combined a melty dark chocolate outside with dark chocolate crunchiness on the inside. Here’s a picture after I took a bite out of it for reference!

dscn1375

After work, I stopped by Whole Foods on the way home for the sole purpose of buying more of those Clif White Chocolate Macadamia Nut bars. No, that wasn’t really my sole purpose. I also stocked up on some ingredients for some baking that’s in my very near future! You’ll just have to wait and see what’s coming 😉 But while I was there, I noticed this:

dscn1385

I guess Luna wanted to get in on the action, too! I suppose they are owned by the same company, so it’s not really a huge surprise. I haven’t tried it yet, but you’ll be the first to know when I do!

While I was at the store, I decided to pick myself up a treat for lunch: sushi!

dscn1376

I bought myself an order of the Brown Rice California Rolls and topped them with some soy sauce once I got home. I am so glad they started selling sushi with brown rice. It’s so much better!

dscn1378

I also bought an order of spring rolls wrapped in rice paper.

dscn1381

These were really good, too, but I was getting pretty full so I only ate 2 of them.

dscn1382

After lunch, I did a couple of chores and then got into today’s P90X workout. I was most excited to see what this one was all about because it’s called Legs & Back. Working my legs is one of my favorite exercises, so I felt up to the challenge. That doesn’t mean it was easy, though! We worked through several sets of squats, lunges, kicks, wall sits, air chair sits…you get the idea! It was super hard and I know that once again, I’m in for some soreness tomorrow! Now I realize that this workout was also supposed to involve “back,” but I’ll get to that in a bit.

Once the DVD was up, my roomie came back and asked if I’d like to go to dinner with her. Well, of course! We decided to take advantage of the ever-so-delicious $5 foot long deal at Subway tonight. But let me tell you, it was a CHILLY walk. Once we got there, I was ready to inhale my Veggie Delight.

dscn1386

I love this sandwich so much! The Honey Oat bread is incredible, and the veggies make you feel super full of fiber 😉 I had mine with “everything,” which means lettuce, tomato, black olives, cucumbers, pickles, red onions, green peppers and banana peppers. I had them add a little honey mustard and seasoning, too. Yum.

dscn1387

We walked back in the cold and then I set off to the gym for the “back” portion of my workout. With P90X, you have the option of investing in a chin-up bar or bands to help you with back exercises. I was going to get the chin-up bar, but eventually decided that I could work around it and do my back work at my gym. So tonight I did pull-up and push-down exercises on the Gravitron, as well as some shoulder presses. I figure I will try to add a little weight and/or repetition each week, and I should still see results. It’s my way of modifying it to meet my needs. After the back work, I also did 30 minutes on the Stairmaster just because I wanted to read some more of my magazine 🙂 Might as well work a bit while doing it!

I came home and cleaned up, then made myself the perfect dessert.

dscn1389

This is by far the best brand of sorbet I’ve ever had. I first found it back in August and have had cravings for it ever since. I had a coupon last weekend so I bought two containers of my all-time favorite flavor, coconut. If you’re a coconut fan, I can guarantee that you will love this because it has real chunks of coconut inside! I had 1/2 cup serving and topped it with a smidge of peanut butter. I have no idea why, it just sounded good at the time. Two of my favorite things, I guess.

dscn1391

I better start researching my papers now! Well, I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t planning on reading some blogs, too 😉 You all are just too addicting!

Random Question

Just because it’s Friday and this is the kind of question you ask on a Friday…

If there was a crumb on the table and you cut it in half, would you have two crumbs or two halves of a crumb?

No comment  I’ll leave this one up to you!

  1. Oh wow, delicious eats! And thanks for the review on the Zone bar!

And hum, what an interesting question. I would say two crumbs… LOL

  2. haha..cut a crumb in half…silly. OMG love subwayyyy, memories 😀 My school had TONS of fast food around, but it did boast TWO 24 hour subways, yea that’s right! So we could always rely on a hearty sub after a good night out! I looove the dark choc versions of zone bars! I have repressed my love of Zone’s due to their lackage in blogland, but the choc pb one is soo protein-y tasting and delish!! Have a great weekend, we have McCormick’s here too it is the BEST for a shmancy dinner!

  3. I got coffee from the Ciao Bella stand in Grand Central Terminal today! If it wasn’t so early I would have gotten some sorbetto.

Good luck with your two papers! Two already, yikes!

  4. That dark chocolate zone bar looks incredibly dark, reminds me of Hershey’s special dark cocoa, it’s practically black and super chocolatey.

I say the one crumb is now two crumbs, just smaller ones. Crumbs are of an undefined size. But if you were splitting a cookie in half, you wouldn’t have two cookies, you’d have two cookie halves. You’d also have a lot of crumbs from doing that….

  5. Sharon ~ Sounds good to me 🙂

    Shannon ~ Fo SHIZZLE!

Caroline ~ Now we can love Zone’s together!

Nicole ~ There’s a Ciao Bella stand?! I’m so jealous!

Nick ~ Thanks for that analysis of the crumb 🙂 It makes total sense!

  6. Cripes, I almost bought that sorbet last weekend but switched it up at the last minute. Now I have to go back to Whole Foods!

What kind of crumb is it? Cus if it is a cookie crumb, its just eaten.

  7. Sushi? Coconut sorbet? With PB? And another White Chocolate Macadamia bar?! Yer killing me here! Love! I wish I could find a coconut sorbet here…alas, just fruity ones. Love me the coconut!

  8. I all about the brown rice sushi, too. That sorbet looks delish—love the PB addition.
Hmmm..I say two crumbs, for sure 😉

  9. hahah mizfit.

I want to try that zone bar….I will be looking for it! I want to try the clif too. I am going to the WFs today (or Earthfare…can’t decide which yet) but I will looking for the bars!

Enjoy your celebration and good luck with the papers!

  10. No, now you just have a mess! :p

Please post how your dinner goes at McCormick and Schmick’s! We have one here as well and have been thinking about going. I’m looking for a reason to dress up. 😀

  11. Bender, A few things – I missed the congrats post for Bobby! Congrats Bobby that is awesome news! Secondly – that Sorbet looks awesome. I never had it before/ Thirdly – You have 2 crumbs 🙂

    zesty

  12. McCormick and Schmicks is so good…Does your location have the private booth seating? Either way, enjoy the celebration dinner!!!

I love the veggie sub from Subway and I add honey mustard as well. Sometimes I add the sweet onion sauce too… extra sweetness!

ALSO… I really want to try that sorbet.. I almost bought it in the store this morning… I think the reason I decided not to buy it had something to do with the fact that it is about 15 degrees outside.

    Def. two crumbs!

  13. Thanks for the shout out! I’m actually enjoying a cup of coffee cocoa as I read this! You’d love the version I’m drinking today–coffee, on teaspoon cocoa, one teaspoon coconut creme coffee mate. 🙂

  14. 2 crumbs. haha.

that dessert looks amazing! it’s weird—i love coconut flavored things but I don’t like actual coconut very much, i think it’s a texture thing.

brown rice sushi from WF is so good! i’ve never tried the spring rolls before though.

    have a great weekend!

  15. i’ve totally gotta find some of that coconut sorbet next time i’m in a civilzed town 😀
that brown rice sushi looks FABULOSO!
i’m anxious to hear if that luna bar is as good as the clif version!
    have a wonderful weekend!

  16. That Luna bar looks really yummy. I have tried every flavor of luna and Clif bars, so I always get excited to find a new one:)

  17. Aw glad you and Bobby are gunna celebrate this weekend, I’m late, but I hope he had a great day!

I can’t wait to hear what you think about that Luna bar, I am not a Luna fan really, but I’m all about some macadamia nuts 🙂

I love hearing about your new workout program, glad you’re enjoying it!

    Have a wonderful Saturday 🙂

  18. Enjoy McCormick and Schmicks! Its a great place!
Just FYI about Subway: they started fortifying their wheat and honey oat bread with 5 grams of fiber!

  19. Hoooray for celebrating!!!

That bar, despite a few sketchy ingredients looks tasty. It is hard to find bars that don’t have artificial sweeteners in them so I will be on the lookout for those.

I vote that you have two crumbs.

  20. brown rice sushi and spring rolls = HEAVEN!

hope you’ve been staying warm ladddddddy! and yay for celebrating at McCormicks! it’s a fam. favorite!

  21. hahaha…i say 2 crumbs! that double dark chocolateness is exactly what i need right now! I am so glad you had brown rice sushi for lunch yesterday..because thats exactly what I am having for lunch today… I started to think that sushi is too unhealthy since i didnt see many people blog about it. hope ou have a great weekend!

  22. Thanks for your comment on my blog – I have had that sorbet, I think in blood orange? Or some flavor like that. Might have to try coconut since it’s the texture I mind – not the taste.

Aw, I like how Bob Diesel called us all your friends. I do agree we are good friends!

  23. I have got to find brown rice sushi – that looks so good right now!

AND that sorbet – I’ve never seen that brand, but I love anything coconut.

Good luck with the research/paper writing!

  24. haha, i know i’m late to the game, but i still find the nickname “bob diesel” pretty funny.

on a totally different note, this post made me hungry. haha. whole foods’ sushi is definitely a treat for me too. i’m glad they’re doing the brown rice and multigrain rolls now.

  25. Hey Jenn, please send my congrats to Bob Diesel as I think I forgot to say that yesterday. How exciting that you will be staying in Chicago! I’ll be sending good thoughts your way for your job search. Do you think your current job might open some doors for you?

McCormick and Schmicks – the BEST seafood. Love that place.

I think your protein packed b’fast is perfect as well. I’ve been eating either omelettes or big bowls of cottage cheese and cereal every morning with some almond butter. I swear that keeps me going so much longer than oatmeal. I think it’s the high protein/fat factor with a little carby-carb throw in the mix. An all-carb brekkie just doesn’t do it for me.

Sounds like another great workout. Ugh, that is my dream to do chin-ups, but I still have to use the assisted chin-up machine. Someday, right? 🙂

I’m still on the lookout for those Macadamia Clif bars. Can’t find them. 🙁

Love that coconut sorbet and to pair it with PB – brilliant!

I say two crumbs! The more, the merrier. Have a good weekend.

  26. I tried your Coffee Cocoa tonight and it was DELICIOUS!!! Yummy yummy yummy creation! I added peppermint extract to mine for a little wintery fun 🙂

  27. You’re right. Brown rice sushi really does taste better. I’m going to have to try your Coffee Cocoa. I’m intrigued.

  28. I know I’m a little late but CONGRATS to Bobby! That’s awesome news. Hope you guys have (or probably had by now) a perfectly lovely celebratory dinner!

I hope those papers are coming along alright for you too. Oh papers. How fun eh?

I have to get away from here now because my eating for the day is LONG done (time for bed!) but this post is making me insanely hungry… the bars, the sushi, the overflowing sub, the coconut sorbet… Ahhh!

  29. Trust me, I work for SUPERVALU (out of Eden Prairie, MN! You actually graduated from EPHS with my brother, I believe) and 90% of the natural/organic brands are owned by companies like Smuckers or Frito Lay or M&M-Mars. It’s crazy.

  30. i havent eaten that veggie delight subway baby yet-but i see it in my tummy very very soon! looks so good! Have u ever been to saladworks? i think u’d LOVE it, bender!!

all this food looks so good. I WANT WHITE CHOCO MACODAMIA :-)!

  31. Five…five…five dollah foot longs! That commercial is always on in our house (which is tuned to ESPN all night). Your sushi looks delicious! I love how perfect each little slice is. I think it would be fun to make!
