Happy Tuesday, everyone! I’m super pumped about this Bender’s Blenders post because this one kept my tummy full for 4 hours! Needless to say, this is a breakfast smoothie. I’ve seen them on a few blogs before, and decided to create my own version. It came out great, with a little unanticipated surprise at the end. At first I wasn’t sure how I felt about this surprise, but then I decided to embrace it because it makes the drink unique and the drinking process last longer. I am definitely fueled through the morning – after drinking a mug of Coffee Cocoa with it, of course 😉 I hope everyone has a great day!

Bender’s Blenders: Oatberry Boost
This breakfast smoothie combines the chewiness of oatmeal and wheatberries with the creaminess of Greek yogurt and a sweet hint of banana. The whey protein powder provides added power, perfect for an on-the-go day that requires extra fuel!
Ingredients (serves 1):
- 1/4 cup old fashioned oats
- 1/8 cup wheatberries
- 1/3 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk (I like Almond Breeze)
- 1 scoops (approximately 1 oz.) vanilla protein powder (I used Biochem)
- 1/2 small banana
- 5 ice cubes
~*~
Directions:
Soak wheatberries in water overnight. Combine oats with Greek yogurt and let sit in refrigerator overnight. In the morning, throw all ingredients together and blend until smooth. Add an extra oat topping if desired, and enjoy!
Perhaps the best part about this smoothie is the surprise you’ll find at the bottom of the cup. Since wheatberries don’t break down in the blender, you’ll spend an extra 5-10 minutes chewing! It’s a great way to get some solids in your breakfast, too!

yummmmm
I love that idea!! I’m not always a huge fan of smoothies because I’m one of those weirdos who needs to chew to feel like they ate something. This is perfect! 🙂
this sounds like a perfect breakfast, and the nutrtional profile is veyr impressive! if only i could buy wheatberries in england, and could afford the expensive whey powder here…… sobsob.
Huh. I’m much of a breakfast chewer than sipper, so this could be perfect for me!
Refreshing!
wow, very interesting concoction! the nutritionals are great on it! 31 g of protein, talk about a power breakfast! i love all of those ingredients so i’m sure i would love this, i just have to get my act together and make a smoothie! for some reason they just really intimidate me, i’m always afraid they are going to be either too watery or too thick. i guess practice makes perfect though, so i should start practicing!
and i love the addition of wheatberries! yummmm
I love a chewy smoothie! THanks for the nutritionals!
wow. that’s a lot of protein! yay

That’s such a neat idea, I’m definitely going to have to try it… hmm, you think they sell wheatberries in Chile? 🙂
This looks delicious… and thanks for posting the nutrition facts – I love that
Wow, i love it. i also LOVE the addition of oats to smoothies, can’t wait to try it!
Haha nice! I keep saying I will make a smoothie and then I think of the blender clean-up and how I’d prefer to do some chewing of solid foods…but hey, maybe with the wheatberries/oats , that part would be covered!?
Thanks for the recipe Jenn-a-boo!
What an interesting smoothie! I keep seeing wheatberries on all the blogs ~ in salads, in yogurt, and now in a smoothie! I guess the possibilities are endless 🙂 I’ve never tried wheatberries before, but when I do I’ll be sure to save some for this smoothie!
Also, thanks for including the nutrition info. Just curious, is there somewhere you can go online which will compute the nutritional information of a recipe?
I use to make shakes with oatmeal and pour the shake over the oatmeal and when you got to the bottom it has absorbed all the liquid and was so good and chewy!
Holy yum!! I definitely want to give a smoothie packed with wheatberries a try. I would LOVE that little “surprise” at the end. And to boot, I haven’t had any wheatberries in quite a while so all the more reason to make something like this. I should soak some of those lovelies asap.
fitnessista ~ Thanks! I like knowing the nutrition info. for recipes, so I’ll be sure to always include ’em!
chandra ~ I’m the same way – that’s why I was so pleasantly surprised!
wholefoodswholeme ~ Aww…well maybe you should take a trip to the U.S. just to pick some up? Haha 😉
Fit Bottomed Girls ~ Awesome!

jenngirl ~ Thanks!
glidingcalm ~ Yup, liquid + solid all in one glass! Gotta love it!
Foodie ~ Yes, you’ve gotta try wheatberries! And as for the nutrition info, I just add up all the ingredients at CalorieKing.com – you could also use dailyplate.com or any of those other nutrition look-up sites. It’s really helpful when trying to create a recipe that is healthy!
Christie ~ Ooh that’s a yummy idea, too! Thanks!
Kristie ~ Haha, “holy yum” is the best description I’ve heard yet! The “surprise” was definitely worthwhile – I hope you try it out!
I never thought of adding wheatberries to my smoothies.. looks great!
I never find wheatberries anywhere 🙁
Now I’ll have to double my efforts!!!
Wow that looks awesome, I just picked up some wheatberries, too! So you don’t cook them, just soak them overnight?
erica ~ It’s awesome – try it!
All Vegged Out ~ Definitely double those efforts 🙂
ttfn300 ~ I just soak mine overnight and have found them to be perfectly chewy. There’s probably a difference between soaking them and cooking them, but I’m too lazy to figure that out!! I’m good with what I got 😉
