This Bender’s Blenders post is a bit different from all the rest! I wanted to take the opportunity to use the blender for a more savory treat. Originally, I was planning on making a hummus, but soon realized I didn’t have tahini on hand – kind of a crucial ingredient So I did the best I could with what I had and came up with a pretty good substitute – black bean dip!
For my first try at making any sort of dip, I’d say it went pretty well. My family definitely enjoyed it and wanted to know how I made it for the future – always a good sign, right? I definitely added some extra salt to keep it from being too bland. Next time, I hope to try something with tahini – but it was really fun to try something beyond the usual smoothie or shake, so I highly recommend giving it a go!!

Bender’s Blenders: Black Bean Fiesta!
This black bean dip combines spiciness with tanginess to create the perfect complement to a tortilla chip, pita, or any other “dipper” you desire!
Ingredients (serves 8):
- 15 oz. can of black beans, drained
- 1 tbsp. olive oil
- 3 tbsp. lime juice
- 1 tsp. minced garlic
- 1 tbsp. dried parsley
- 1/2 tbsp. dill
- 1/2 tbsp. pepper
- Pinch of salt
~*~
Directions:
Combine ingredients and blend until smooth. Do a spoon – or in my case, chip! – taste test to ensure that the dip isn’t too bland. Add extra salt or spice as needed!
The end result is a super creamy, super delightful chip topper!

wow! that is so simple and looks soooo good! I don’t have a can of black beans…think it would work well with navy beans?

Melissa S. ~ Haha I’m sure it would! Bean dip is bean dip, after all – it’d be interesting to try different types of beans and see how the flavor changes!
Oh yum. I love making dips in the food processor with beans!
WHen I make “hummus” at home I don’t put tahini because I never have any, so I won’t judge if you do the same. ๐
_______________
HangryPants ~ Glad you’re not going to judge me ๐
ooo yum! i love black bean dip!! that looks so good too!! thanks for the recipe Bender!! and I’d love to see you make hummus sometime too! there are so many recipes out there… I never know which one is a bettter one to try!
happy Wednesday!

glidingcalm ~ I definitely want to try hummus sometime. It’d be nice to make my own and know all the ingredients that go into it!
That looks excellent! Did you just kind of throw that recipe together? Yum! It looks like a good sandwich spread.
_______________
Erin ~ I was looking online at various recipes for hummus without tahini and I took what I gathered from them and added what I think would create a good flavor!
I love any form of black bean dip and this looks great! I love the savory idea for benders blenders ๐ What are you up to today?

VeggieGirl ~ Haha ๐
Very impressed with your dip and you pictures!!
_______________
Megan ~ Thank you!
I love black bean dip! My mom has a recipe that processes half the amount of beans that the recipe calls for, and then stirs in the other half at the end, so you have whole black been floating throughout. So good!
_______________
jenngirl ~ Ooh, that’s a really good idea! I will definitely do that next time!
That sounds/looks REALLY good!!! It was funny because at first I thought it was a blueberry smoothie ๐
_______________
melissaeats ~ Haha, now that I look at it, the dip does look surprisingly purple!
that looks really good! I love dips but sometimes they are loaded with cheese which is no good–this is the perfect healthy treat. I bet it would be good stuffed in a pita with lots of veggies!
Did it really look that purple? I totally thought it was blueberry something too!
_______________
Sarah ~ I think it has to be the lighting – but it was a bit purple! ๐
I think this is my favorite feature of your blog, because I love using my Vitamix.
_______________
CCV ~ Hurray for Vitamix!
This is so creative – I love it. The color of the dip is very unexpected – I thought it would be darker. Maybe from the navy beans? This color is much prettier though.
_______________
Rose ~ Haha, saw your next comment ๐ I think I like the color, too!
Oops – I read that wrong. You did use black beans. Well, it’s still an interesting color… ๐

_______________
caitlin (see bride run) ~ I didn’t think I could use it either – but it worked perfectly!
MMmm, black bean dip ๐ Don’t think it needs tahini to be considered hummus! Sometimes I’ve used sesame oil (similar taste to tahini). It’s awesome to make it at home, can’t wait to see what variations you come up with!
_______________
ttfn300 ~ Ooh good to know! I’ll have to try it with sesame oil sometime! Thanks ๐
Yummy! I will definitely have to try that with my new blender:)
_______________
Caroline ~ Let me know what you think if you do!
Yum! I’ll have to try that! I bet it’s a whole lot cheaper than buying hummus and dip too!
_______________
Heather ~ It was!! And a lot more fun ๐
