Aloha! [Maui Part Two]

Boy oh boy, a new apartment does not make it easy to connect to the Internet! I apologize for being away for so long, but with the start of my new job – so exciting because I love it! – and lack of access to a wireless signal, it was necessary. Now I’m back and ready to give you a much more detailed recap of the rest of my Maui trip! In a word, it was a incredible.

When I last left you, we had finished the first night of our trip. A lot has happened since then 😉 Our first night in Paia was wonderful, but the best was yet to come. On our first morning in Hawaii, we woke up bright and early and grabbed breakfast at a cute little coffee shop called Anthony’s.

The coffee there was incredible. I had a vanilla latte and was set. I also got a Greek omelette, which was voluminous and fluffy, just the way I like it!

After breakfast, we embarked on our first scenic journey: The Road to Hana. This is a world famous road trip that covers roughly 68 miles and takes about three hours, since the road is very winding and narrow. It passes over 59 bridges (some of them one-lane) and has roughly 620 curves through lush rainforest.

There were several stops along the way where you could get out and look at the ocean over steep cliffs. It was absolutely phenomenal. But perhaps our favorite stop along the way was the Garden of Eden, a botanical garden and arboretum that had some of the most beautiful plant life I have ever seen.

No, the bird from my last post was unfortunately not real, Krista 🙂 But the views were absolutely breathtaking, and my mom and I took plenty of fun pictures!

After our scenic road trip, we returned to Paia for an elegant and scrumptious dinner at Mama’s Fish House.

Wow.

The food here was absolute perfection. A virtual haven for the taste buds! My mom and I started by ordering some fun drinks – I had a glass of chardonnay.

Then we were served freshly made whole wheat poppysead bread.

Wow again.

We decided to make the most of our time, so we ordered the lobster guacamole to start. It was so creamy and fresh, and the sweet potato chips it was served with tasted like even they were fresh out of the oven! Very impressive.

We also ordered the Haiku Tomato, Maui Onion, Macadamia Nuts and Point Reyes Blue Cheese salad. It was just as fresh and delightful.

For the main dish, I had to go with the Mahimahi stuffed with lobster, crab and Maui onion and baked in a macadamia nut crust. Yeah, say that three times fast 🙂 It would be worth it.

Did I already mention, wow?

We eventually had to give up on account of fullness, but it was worth it for the chance to try so many fantastic flavors. I highly recommend paying Mama’s Fish House a visit if you’re ever in Maui. It sits right on the beach, so you can enjoy a pleasant view out the window.

And so ended night two of our fantastic trip. I couldn’t have asked for a better time with my mom, and more fun was still to come! I will recap the second half of our trip in the third and final installment, which will be sooner rather than later now that the Internet is my friend again 🙂

  6. Hawaii is so the best of both worlds- a tropical island vacation while staying in the US…you really can’t get much better. All of the food looks delicious but lobster guacamole ? That sounds just out of this world. Glad you’re back and SUPER glad you’re enjoying your job

  7. Ahhhh such a nostalgic post for me! My grandparents lived in Hawaii for 20+ years…they met there…lived there…and gave birth to all their children there! We would go to their condo in Maui every summer and we NEVER made a trip without at least one dinner at Mama’s Fish House. Simply amaaazing. We saw Willie Nelson there once..it was strange.

    You must get a mai tai while you’re in Maui! Also, pog juice is the best (passion fruit, orange, mango). Guava jelly and PB on Hawaiian bread is out of this world. Of course, the Kona Coffee is insanely de-lish..I think it’s the best coffee I’ve had. Hmmmm what else. Our condo is in Kehei, on the other side of the island from Paia, but if you get the chance to travel around the island..Wailea is gorgeous and a really really awesome huge-wave-having beach is in Makena, and it’s called Big Beach. Out in this direction, you can walk around the newest rock formations from the lava flow and it feels like you’re on the moon.

    Ok crap…I just realized that you’re already back from Maui, no?? Sorry for just blabbbbinggg but hopefully this info will be helpful for someone else who may be traveling to Maui soon 🙂
