A Different Kind Of Hustle

For two years, the end of February meant Hustle Up the Hancock. Bobby and I loved racing up 94 flights of stairs in 2011 and 2012. The reward was an unparalleled view of our favorite big city.

Not to mention a pretty medal and the pride of knowing we’d achieved something pretty cool.

It was a little bittersweet when I realized yesterday that we wouldn’t be climbing this year, but in less than 24 hours I will be embarking on a whole different kind of hustle, setting out to accomplish my 2013 goal of running Ragnar del Sol. The lovely Karla arrived last night and Melissa will be here in a couple of hours, so it’s starting to feel real, to say the least.

I have all sorts of emotions coursing through me right now. Excitement over the prospect of doing something completely new. Anxiety over whether I will be able to meet the time goals I’ve set for myself. And yes, a little bit of fear over running in the desert at all hours of the day for 48 hours straight (well, I won’t actually be running for 48 hours, but my three legs are spaced in a way that will ensure I get to see the terrain at every time of day or night imaginable).

No matter how much my stomach may be churning, I’m looking forward to crossing the finish line with 11 inspiring women by my side. Perhaps a coyote or two, as well. 😉 Cheers to Team Dessert!

I’ll see you all on the other side of the race. Have a wonderful weekend!

Abrazos,
