ALMOST too cute to eat.

I’m home for the week before finals, which first of all, has been such a necessary break from the incredibly intense quarter I’ve had at school. After getting picked up from the airport, I was lucky enough to be treated to a mother-daughter-brother trip to the new, ginormous (yes, that is now a word) Whole Foods in our town. Apparently big locations like this one collect all the best products from stores nationwide. There were so many different samples of fresh fruit, desserts, snack food…I thought I was dreaming! It was hard to resist buying up the whole store, but since my mom was treating I settled on just a few items that I “had” to try. The one that I’ve found most delicious and intriguing is baby kiwi.

Here’s a closer look at the label…

And one of the babies out of the container…

They look a little weird but they taste like bite-sized kiwi and are so much easier to eat because you don’t have to remove the skin or cut them up. I wanted to find out more about them so I looked online and this is what I came up with from Melissa’s Produce:

Baby Kiwis, cousins of the Kiwi Fruit, are luscious berries with smooth skin, delicate seeds and are similar in size to the grape. They are high in nutritional value and make excellent snacks. Baby Kiwis’ beautiful green skin lacks the undesirable fuzz found on the larger, well-known variety. They are just as delicious and refreshing as well. Baby Kiwis are handpicked and immediately hand-packed with care. They have a shelf life of 7 to 14 days. Eat Baby Kiwis whole right out of the hand or create delightful snacks and hors d’oervres for any occasion.

I’m not sure how easy it will be to find baby kiwi since I have never encountered them before this Whole Foods trip, but if you can get your hands on them, I highly recommend it!

Grade: A+
