You Are Unrepeatable

Today’s #FebPhotoADay is words, and I instantly knew what I wanted as my picture.

The below is a greeting card I picked up in Milwaukee last September. I display it on top of my desk as a reminder on those less-than-stellar days where my mind is telling me…

You’re crazy to be running two businesses

You’ll never be a successful author andย

You should quit while you’re ahead.

Come to think of it, though, it’s something we should remind ourselves of every day.

“You are unrepeatable. There is a magic about you that is all your own…” -D.M. Dellinger

How are you embracing your unique “magic” this week?

I know it may seem a bit hokey, but I’m truly curious! Think about it. What are you doing that no one else can do the way you can? It can be something as important and amazing as being a mom, or something seemingly unoriginal as making the coffee every morning at work.

Whatever it is, no one does it quite like you. You are unrepeatable. And that’s what keeps life interesting.

Abrazos,

  1. What a great quote. How am I magical? I don’t know how I’m balancing work, teaching at the gym & taking care of the family right now. To me that is magical….hopefully I don’t fall apart ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • That sounds like so much fun! If I wasn’t going to a friend’s party already I would invite myself. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Just kidding! Hope you have a great time – I have no doubt it will be a success if there is cheese and beer involved!

  2. I love that quote – so cool! And, I think you convinced me to join in – I may post my photos on Twitter.. hm.. How am I magical? I cook intuitively the majority of the time, and end up with amazing meals.

Sadly, this means it takes me more time to write out a recipe because “a large glob of barbeque sauce” just doesn’t translate well in a recipe, but it makes cooking an adventure!

    • I’m so glad you’re going to join in on the challenge! Can’t wait to see your pictures. Love what you wrote about cooking intuitively. You’re right – it makes creating a recipe a lot more of an adventure!

  3. That card is so nice, Jenn. I have a similar one that says “You are so much sunshine to the square inch”. Always a good thought to keep in mind!

I helped Chris with his all-nighter (unfortunately those still happen in grad school!?) by making him coffee before I went to bed and picking up his favorite breakfast after I went to the gym. He said he didn’t think he could make it without em so I think it was needed :).

  4. I think I needed to read this post today. This week has felt zapped of magic, and I need to better harness it. Thank you for the reminder!

  5. Great quote! I think we could all use that reminder every once in a while, some more than others (ahem, me! lol) I used to keep a notebook with inspirational quotes and also post them on my wall where I could see them all the time. I think I’ll start doing that again! Funny how just a few words can make you feel so much better about yourself and much more motivated.

  6. Also, this is one of my favorite quotes, kind of along the same lines.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
    We ask ourselves,
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
    our presence automatically liberates others.
    – Marianne Williamson

I think a lot of times, we know what we are passionate about and good at, and deep down we know we can achieve these things, but it’s almost as if practicality and reason take over, followed closely by self-doubt. Yes, some dreams are crazy, but if it’s something that you’re good at and meaningful and fulfilling to you, then definitely keep at it, and most likely it will come true. And even if a dream doesn’t turn out the way you wish, you can be satisfied with knowing that you gave it your all, and that just by doing that, you are keeping the dream alive.

Anyway, I’ve also been meaning to send that email to you. I didn’t forget – just trying to find the right words.
