Food Blogger Book Club!

Warning: I am super excited about this, so forgive me if there are a lot of exclamation points πŸ™‚

Food Blogger Book Club

Many of you may remember the book list I posted a little over a month ago. After that post, I received several requests for some sort of “blogger book club” to be started, where anyone who was interested could join and we could pick a book to read together and then discuss it on a certain date. Further discussion with Miss Caroline last weekend convinced me that this needed to become a reality!

The lovely bloggers Andrea and Katie made the research easy for me when they suggested GoodReads.com as a forum tool. I can’t believe how easy it is! I created a profile this afternoon under the username EatingBender and then created the official group: Food Blogger Book Club!! And guess what??

YOU’RE ALL INVITED!! (Click the link at left for the official invitation and create a profile!)

Once you create your profile, I’ll be able to officially get you into the group. I decided to make it semi-private so that only us foodie bloggers and foodie blog readers can participate! Of course, you can feel free to tell anyone else you want to join about the club, too. The more the merrier – but this way only the members of the group will be able to view the discussion boards!

After I gauge the interest level for this club, we can all decide which book to read first! Then we can work out logistics, etc. If you wouldn’t mind also sending me an email at eatingbender@gmail.com to let me know you joined, that would be great. That way, I can form an email list to make it easy to coordinate our schedules and find a perfect time to discuss what we read!

Also, for all you bloggers: there’s a widget you can add to your sidebar (check mine out underneath where it says “Join the Club”)! Let me know if you’re interested and I can send you the code! Let’s get the word out and make this group as big as it can be. The more foodie love, the betta!!

Now that we’ve got that excitement out of the way, I’d like to show you Papa Bender’s delicious dinner from last night! As usual, he was right at home in the kitchen.

Sorry for the slight blurriness 😳 The main event of the meal was the Kobe beef burger, which is the best kind of red meat burger, in my opinion. Papa Bender topped mine with muenster cheese, and I proceeded to add mushrooms and ketchup for the ultimate feast. Yum!

dscn2944

On the side, he steamed up some Swiss chard and roasted some red peppers for some veggie love πŸ™‚

dscn2945

Combined with a glass of red vino, it made for a great meal, as always!

Please excuse the massive piles of papers in the background! It’s all part of the house building process, as my mom will tell you. I wish I could bring my family back to school with me πŸ˜‰

Today was kind of a monotonous day as far as eating. I got my haircut in the morning so I just grabbed the basic cereal breakfast and spent the day out and about running errands for my mom and for myself. I want the focus of this post to be on the Food Blogger Book Club, so I’ll spare ya! I am planning some more creativity in the kitchen tomorrow, so stay tuned!

If you plan to join the book club, put your thinking caps on! Let’s come up with a stellar first read, one that you’ve never read before but have always wanted to or, perhaps, one that you loved so much that you want to share it with everyone else and read it a second time around. It’s up to you!

Book club love,

  1. Oh I would love to join! I am currently in a book club in Oregon but gosh the books they pick are so depressing most times! I will sign up this weekend!

  2. I think that the blogger book club is a great idea. Honestly, after graduating college I haven’t been much into reading, I think I got burned out, but I really want to get back into it again and this would be a good way.

You could also throw a twist in and maybe once in a while choose a new cookbook and have everyone try a different recipe or something???

  3. I definitely want to join, I love food, bloggers, and books! yay.
You’re totally making me crave red meat again! I have been all week which is unusual for me. looks so yummmy!

  4. I am so into it, I’m SO happy you got that amazing suggestion!!! I’m emailing you in the AM cuz i’m a sleepy bear πŸ˜€ But I was thinking today about the new Wally Lamb book?? I read his book, “She’s Come Undone” this summer and it was really great, i’m gonna look up his other titles! Yayy good work talk to you tomorrow!

  5. I signed up for the book club and that site! It’s so much fun looking through books and stuff on there!

  6. i did figure it out and im so excited!! i don’t think theres such a thing as too many exclamation points, btw πŸ™‚

  7. As much as it would be fun, I am soooo horrible at getting books readin any sort of time frame. Plus I’m sure alot of people will want to read fiction, and that’s really not my things. But hopefully it turns out to be lots of fun for all that join πŸ˜€

  8. Another great papa bender meal! He is such a great cook! Does he plan out his meals or just buy what he thinks he’ll need for the week and decides what he is going to make at the spur of the moment? I wish I was a big reader! The book club sounds fun!

  9. A book club sounds so fun! I wish I had time to read books that I want to read, but unfortunately, I’ve got way to much reading to join right now. πŸ™ But maybe I’ll be able to once I graduate! πŸ™‚

You are so creative, Jenn! The blog world is lucky to have you!

  10. I think it’s awesome you’re doing this! I have to just be honest w/ myself and the blogger community that I am a BAD addition to book clubs LOL. I always get behind —like my readings for school…..ooops.:P

  11. Fun idea! I’m still debating on joining though – I’m such a commitment phobe when it comes to book reading! I have 3 different books going at once right now and I can’t get myself to finish any of them. πŸ˜› But I do love to read!!!

  12. I’m soo excited about the book club! I love to read and I LOVE to read anything that has to do with health and food of course:) I can’t wait to sign up later today:) thanks for getting in started Jen!

  13. Jenn – this is a superb idea. I love it! Now I only hope I have time for it… between school and my other bookclub.

  14. Wow what an idea! I’m such a reader and have been on Goodreads for a while now. I don’t think I can handle another book club on top of the one I’m currently in, but I love the idea that someone else mentioned of possibly making at least some of the books cookbooks! It would be a great forum to discuss people’s fave cookbooks and recipes!

  15. I’m so excited about the book club I’m going to sign up right now! Papa Benders dinner looked so great! I am hoping to make my commitment to food blogging starting today, but it is really nerve racking!

  16. Ohh wow, I just realized I’ve missed out on the last 3 AWESOME posts because I wasn’t sure how long you’d be gone for the Emmy’s, but OMG what fun!!!

First of all, you look sooo gorgeous in the dress at the awards. πŸ™‚ This low sugar thing is definitely showing!! Your skin is like – radiating/glowing (in a lovely way of course)

And then, I have to comment on Pinkberry because I myself am a froyo ADDICT. πŸ˜› I wish I knew you were going to be in LA because I would have said – GO TO YOGURTLAND!!!! It’s basically a buffet style fro yo place that has over 15 flavors at a time. And you add your own toppings, they weigh, you pay, and then ENJOY!! It’s so awesome I always end up OD-ing on 4 different flavors in one go. πŸ˜› My favorite being the taro flavor!

Now moving on (hehe), Papa bender is such a fabulous cook!! I see where you get all your skills from. hehehe You should cook him a dinner one time, I think it would blow his socks off!!!

last but not least, I TOTALLY did your PB2 & oats combo this morning and it is sooo darn awesome!!! <3 Thanks Jenn!!! Hope you have a greaat weekend!

  17. Yay! So fun…I just signed up! I hope that I can keep up with the fun book picks along with my school reading πŸ˜‰ I’m sure gonna try because this sounds like a blast! Way to take the lead Jenn!!

  18. Love Kobe beef. So flavorful! Thanks for putting the book club together, and I hope you enjoyed your haircut. LOVE getting my hair washed.

P.S. Kudos to Papa Bender. I guarantee you my dad does not even know what Swiss chard is. πŸ™‚

  19. I totally wanted to start something like this when I was in Sd but never got around to it! Kudos Jenn! I’ve signed up and am excited!!!

  20. YAY! I’m so excited for this! I just joined up and emailed you πŸ™‚

And kudos to Papa Bender for a mad delicious meal as per usual!

  21. I want the GoodReads widget! (It’s a great website, especially for the library/bookstore obsessed on a budget!) I’m new to the blogging scene, but I’m working it in! Thanks for the great idea!
