And the Emmy Goes to…[VIDEO!]

This afternoon I was on the phone with my mom when I got a beep for another call. It was an unrecognized number, which typically excites me because I think “OMG, MAYBE IT’S A JOB!!” even though it usually isn’t 🙁 But getting back to the real story here, I clicked over and the conversation went something like this.

Me: Hello?

Caller: Hello, is this Jennifer —?

Me: Yes…

Caller: Hi Jennifer, this is N from the College Television Awards. I’m calling to congratulate you because your show was chosen for an Emmy.

Me: Really? Oh wow, thank you so much!

Caller: Congratulations!

Me: THANK YOU SO MUCH!

You can see where this is going…I was basically in a state of delirium and kept screaming “THANK YOU!” into the phone as she gave me more details.

After 5 months of intense dedication, stress, sweat and tears, my work and that of my roommate, Kathleen, has paid off. Our newscasts are Emmy award-winning. I still am in shock when I type out that sentence.

There is no way we could have done this without each other. The support we received from our reporters and tech crew was, of course, much needed and appreciated, but no one person or thing could have brought us to this point if we hadn’t taken the plunge together. Kathleen, if you’re reading this, I love you like a sister and am so proud of you.

Winning this award means three very incredible things:

1) Kathleen and I will be flying out to Los Angeles in March to find out where we placed. There is a cash prize for first, second and third place. Wherever we place, we are technically “Emmy winners.” I’ve never been to LA before…I am pumped!!

2) We have left our mark here on campus. I can now say that I am officially ready to graduate and feel confident about the direction I’m going in.

3) We celebrated in a big way tonight…by going out for dessert at an incredible restaurant, Jilly’s Cafe. I got the key lime pie. Unfortunately, I didn’t have my camera, but it was the most amazing key lime pie I have ever had. It made the day perfect.

I know that many of you have asked whether I can post the show on the blog. I will definitely try to figure out how to do that soon.
